Welcome to Grade 7 Honors Mathematics!
Objectives
This course is designed to help students experience the beauty and relevance of mathematics in the world around us. They will learn to critically evaluate complex problems and debate ideas that have multiple solutions; to communicate effectively in oral and written form; and to connect and apply concepts to real-life situations.
Overview
The Grade 7 mathematics course will deepen and extend many of the concepts that students learned in Grade 6. The focus this year will be on five key areas:
(1) Number sense: irrational numbers, exponent use, and scientific notation
(2) Developing understanding of and applying algebraic language, reasoning and rules
(3) Using patterns to generalize formulae and modeling linear functions
(4) Geometric relationships and theorems
(5) Learning probability through games of chance
Homework Policy
Students may receive up to approximately 1 hour of homework per week. Successful effort and completion will be reflected in the learning habits grade.
